The Broken Boy & The Smooth Girl

Had an unexpected painting day today…well some of the day…Jack was off school due to the snow, so in between snowball fights and Xbox’ing I’ve managed to finish off this painting…

Mmm ... I am blushing ... as always seeing in the 'flesh' makes the difference. Will you show it next month? It still has an animal and vegetable connotation to it.

Someone else came around and looked at this today and also couldn't tell what it was...so no need to blush Lorna, clearly this piece is only readable by those in the know ;)... Will probably take into art group…will certainly try and put it on show somewhere :)…Some elements started reminding me of Stanley Spencer as it was coming together…will definitely do some more along these lines :)

No one can see the hand groping the breast in the middle?

You’d think that would be very noticeable wouldn’t you…lol

Well you have got Spencer's sexuality but I think it had a rhythm like Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso.

Wow…that’s a huge compliment, thank you Lorna :) I love Les Demoiselles d'Avignon…
I enjoyed painting this one…it came to life right there on the paper, rather than me thinking it all through and planning to the Nth degree…As I started making the first few marks there was something quite different in my mind…I’m really pleased with the composition and I like the subject…there’s more meaning in the shapes than a straight ‘realistic’ interpretation. I think it’s shaping up to be a very effect way of presenting a narrative…

Hmm....its a brilliant painting...am I the only one to see violence in it some how? It seems very raw and challenging. Maybe thats just me. I am suffering from sleep deprivation at the moment....

I think it's good, but I dont like it, (sorry) I find it disturbing,I am drawn towards the 2 hands holding each other, feels kind of desperate.
Thanks for showing us!
Penny.

I intended there to be a dark, negative element to the male figure, but not for it to be aggressive towards the female figure. I can see where you’re getting that impression from however. The male figure is very dominantly placed over the female one. That wasn’t really intentional…and therefore possibly a ‘mistake’…as I mentioned on Friday my original idea was for a painting quite different, so perhaps I shall return to the subject again quite soon and see if I can capture some of the tenderness I wanted…there’s a kind of beauty and the beast effect I’m after I suppose…

Don’t worry about not liking it Penny, if it moved you…albeit in a disturbing way, I’ll take that as a good thing. It’s definitely the kind of painting that needs to provoke an emotional response and the ‘desperate’ element is certainly something I was trying to get in there…:)
