Moonlit Square - Finished

Well today has been another busy day over at the exhibition with visitors particularly enjoying the gold paintings and the hot tea on such a cold day :)
Thursday and Friday were a bit quieter which allowed me to make some progress with the ‘Moonlit Square’ watercolour and I’ve finished it off today, hope you like it :)

The House - Finished

Today I’ve finished painting ‘The House’. I’m really pleased with the way it’s turned out. I’ve painted over the gold with more control on this one and worked out a couple of extra ways of applying the shading which allow me to work in an extra layer of mark making. It’s only a small picture 6x8 inches but I think I’ve managed to get a lot of interesting elements in there…am looking forward to working these up on a larger scale…not looking forward to forking out for the gold to cover them however lol ;)

Fishing boats in Boscastle harbour - Drawing

Working on another Cornish swirling painting today. Some fishing boats in Boscastle harbour, just finished the drawing so I thought I’d do a quick post here. Boats are hard enough to draw normally, playing around with this slightly warped perspective has taken a while ;) lol…time to throw some masking fluid on…:)

View from The Talbot Inn - Part 1

I’ve drawn this very faintly with a 2H pencil, so the drawings not that clear when photographed, but I thought I’d blog it anyway. It’s a view from the decking at the Talbot Inn in Eynsham.

Following on from the last painting of the Square and some discussions in the pub with Lorna and Susan, I’m pushing the perspective quite a bit further in this one. It’s taken the best part of a day to get it all worked out…it’s SO much easier doing something realistic lol…as soon as you pull the angles around in one area you need to balance them elsewhere…lots of rubbing out and refining things but I’m finally happy with the layout…need to add about a gallon of masking fluid now ;)

Oil Swirls Experiment

I'm trying a little experiment at the moment to see if i can use oils with the swirling landscapes...I've got a canvas and a board I've coated with Gesso. Both are divided into two and I've used masking fluid on one half, moulding latex on the other, I've made a variety of marks with both and then painting on some oil. Thin to thick across the surface. I need to wait for it to dry now, then I'll add another coat... then I'll need to wait a LONG time for it to dry fully....and finally, we'll see if the masking fluid/latex comes off or not :)

Also did a painting yesterday which I'll blog later...need to head off now and am late already :)
