Chard

Did a bit on the chard tonight, again it's taking a while as I keep working into things to try and get it right while holding an interesting brush stroke...all in all, a very interesting excercise...

I really like the look and feel of the chard as it is. Interesting contours and very vibrant. My guess is that you might want to avoid overworking it in case you lose the strokes.

But then again, I've no experience of working with oils so perhaps the process is almost as enjoyable as the end result. I often find that with my canvases.

Thanks Sue. Hopefully you’ll like the final picture, the texture and contours of the chard are what drew me to it as a subject in the first place. You’re right about overworking the brushstrokes…It’s hard not to over do it and blend everything in to a more finished state. I’ve really tried to experiment with this picture and capture some raw intensity with the oils themselves…hopefully I can then transfer some of these techniques over to the more allegorical pictures…anyway, It was a lot of fun to paint :) And you should try the oils sometime, they’re really good and I think they’d suit your style of painting…:)
