And here are the (still wet) bubbles I should have posted a few days ago. They'll need glazing to get shadows in the right places and generally knock them back a bit, but the overall texture works pretty well, so once they're dry I'll continue with them.

Those bubbles are amazing.
This is starting to look good. How realistic do you want the end result to be?
If you wanted to surreal, you could add some mini-pictures into the bubbles.
Thanks Sue :) I don’t want things photorealistic Hildegard, but I do want them to look believable from a distance, so I thinking I’m going in a promising direction…just wish the damn things would dry so I can get on with the glazing…:)
