The Rollright Stones

Ahhh, better late than never, here are the Rollright Stones on a cold wintry afternoon...Not much to say today, so I’ll stop there…:)

The stones are a still point of the energy surge in the surrounding lands ... very mythical!

There is great energy embedded in this painting, but I still think there are way too many swirly lines in the trees which detract the eye...well my eye at least but perhaps thats because I am too easily distracted! :-)

I know what your saying about the swirling lines in the trees, and I was playing around with them in a somewhat experimental way while doing them, though, broadly speaking they’re like my other trees :)…Your comment has got me thinking that I should try experimenting with the swirls on some elements and leave more paint on others...such as the trees…this is one of the very useful things about this blog, getting input from other artists…trying to see my painting through your eyes is very informative, I might not always agree with what you say ;) but it always make me reassess what I’m doing and that is invaluable… :) I’m rambling now…I maybe drunk ;)

I was looking at this in the week.

(If I don't always comment it's 'cos I find it hard to make sensible comment about anyone else's work when my own mindset is elsewhere on my own canvas. Crazy I know. But I do find thought processes quite fragile. I won't even change the music 'til something's completed!)

Anyway, the location in your piece is very like the 9 Ladies Stone Circle in Matlock, in which I became frighteningly lost just over a year ago. The trees beyond look exactly the same. And to me, your painting captures the way the energy radiates out from those stones and into the surrounding trees.

Took me ages to locate my car. Felt like I was in the opening scenes of Werewolf in London, when they're trying to get off the moors!
