The two original frames have been sanded and water polished...silky smooth now :-) in the background are three more sample pieces, each of these is using a different profile of moulding, so I should have a nice little selection once they're all done.

First handmade frames

Here are the first of the handmade frames I'm going to be producing, I thought I'd show the behind the scenes processes here on my art blog and leave the main Cuckoos Nest blog for the finishes pieces. Anyway to start with I'm going to make a couple of test pieces, one for a mirror and one for this small pear painting I did a while ago. I'll be using the same moulding for both, but the gilding and paint finishes will be different.

Here you can see both frames assembled and getting their first 'size' coat (that lovely brew I cooked up the other day). They need to dry for a couple of days now and then I'll mix up some gesso for the next layers...

Owls...

Adding in owls & deer to some of the paintings today. I want to get 10 pieces ready for our autumn exhibition which starts on 15th September....lots to do :-)

Meeting at the bank and the such like today, but i did make some progress in the shop, will post soon. I've also been experimenting on a new style of artwork for the Artweeks exhibition...I'll try and get that photographed tomorrow :)

Floor down, shelves in place, most of the tops on, hopefully next weekend it’ll all be done :)

Birdcage

Found this birdcage today, will be fab in the shop once things are all up and running :)

A slight change of plan...

Got the MDF today, all ready to make the shelves and backings, but a slight change of plan for February… I’ve got another commission for a set of paintings I won’t be able to blog, which is great for me…but not so interesting for you…So building work largely on hold while I get these new pieces done…we’ll see how it goes :)

Phase one finished...

Finished the carcase for the counter today, so that’s the first phase of this room done. I’ll pick some MDF next Friday, so progress will now have to wait until I’ve done that ….time for some sleep… :)

Shop building part 1

The commission I’ve been working on was delivered earlier this week and the Studio looks very empty now all the paintings have gone; it was packed this time last week :) I’m now moving onto converting the Gallery room into a more inviting shop space(soon to be called ‘The Cuckoos Nest’) . The first job is building the carcases for the shelves…I’ll keep posting as I go, so you can see how it develops. :)
