Down by the River...

Escaped down to the river this afternoon to do a little painting...and here it is. Still playing with the swirling lines, masking fluid and splattering the paint on...All quite enjoyable to do and I think a reasonably pleasing end result...anyway, it was very relaxing and I seem to be getting somewhere...

I do like the way your style of water colours seems to be developing. Very different from your oils or emerging card production business ;-)And dare I say it, a Graham Rice orginal completed within a day for a change!!

I’m toying with the idea of having some painting days out…where I just take off and paint for the whole day, so who knows I might start doing several pictures in one day…then I could give you a real run for your money ;)

Hmm....the job of background painter is still open you know...............

I think painting days out are a good idea. However, at the risk of sounding mean, your picture is a little twee.

Maybe it's about time you challenged yourself a little more and tried putting your heart and soul into something. Bleed onto the canvas a bit!

Your pictures are good, but where's the voice of the artist. Technique can only take you so far.

I know what you mean about the picture being a bit twee Hildegard. It is a simple . idyllic setting and not wildly dramatic as a painting… a nice quiet picture you might say… In general I tend to put the “blood” into the oils – at least in terms of meaning…I’ve only fairly recently started doing these watercolour landscapes, which I actually find quite relaxing to do…So I suppose I do a lot of them (this one in particular) just to unwind, rather than make a great statement to the world…Perhaps I need to do a few when I’m not just in need of relaxation…:)

And Sue, if you can pay me £250 a day, I’ll come and paint your backgrounds…;)

I hear what you say Graham but take yourself down to see Turner's watercolours at the Tate Britain and then let your tiger growl.

Otherwise you'll end up like Winston Churchill and we can't have that!

I’d like to get to that exhibition actually…partly to see the Turners, but also the Hockney “wood” pictures… :)

Graham - in the end the question is whether you want to paint, or whether you want to be an artist.

I'm only being hard on you becuase I think you have potencial.

Graham - I do hope my comments haven't caused your creative urges to dy up...

Not at all Hildegard, have just been a bit preoccupied with other things lately. Will get some new things posted soon :)
